Yes bro DWM,
It is not of race. It is attitude and as the saying goes; “It is ATTITUDE and not APTITUDE that determines the ALTITUDE”.
The chinese have a feeling of siege mentality and they acted positively to get out of the rut. The malays elsewhere, Sri Lanka, UK S Africa to name a few, had this “pendatang” attitude and they faired well. Malays here do feel that siege mentality, blame others and they are where they are!!
Attitude bro, attitude.

Congratulations Doc, you have managed to argue the issues extremely well.

I always say “don’t blame others for what and where we are today”.

I fully agree with you the Kelantanese in Kelantan know best; so also the “common” non-Malays.

May be the “elite” non Malays are financing the growing number of “common” non-Malays? This the malays can be equally Competitive with Knowledge, commitment, determination, sacrifices and hunger for success.

ASWT,
Looking from a different perspective.

CHINESE VOTES

The trend is gaining ground as the Chinese furtively show their discontent with the government policies as well as the
modus operandi of the biggest Malay political party UMNO.

Well, this dissatisfaction had been and will continue to be shown by the people of Kelantan, and mind you, by the Malay community, who are knowledgeable about what is going on among the elite umno ruling class and cronies. Most Kelantanese, including the Chinese rejected BN. Does this smell racial?

As the UMNO leaders exerted their influence in BN, the Chinese component parties in the coalition lost their voice and their bite to be an effective platform for airing Chinese grievances, needs and demands. That the Chinese voters trust them more than the MCA and Gerakan is a foregone conclusion!

It is not about losing voices and bites but the Chinese community is aware of the believed in what they are fighting for and support the party which is fighting for fairness, basic rights of human life equality and good governance and non-corrupt government.

As the gutter-fighters among the Malays gather their strength under the banner of Perkasa, ……

#### What about umno gutter-fighters themselves? None, no contribution, not a single role? Be truthful real, who was the real planner of May 13. Get some lessons from the Quran whom most of the people have forgotten as the guidance and rules on earth. Quran is not great but the federal constitution is greater!

All foreboding the real danger of a fully-blown racial conflict!  A repeat of May 13 1969 GOD FORBID! . I pray to God that Kuala Lumpur, indeed the other  Malaysian political “hot spots” like George Town and Ipoh will be spared the wrath of the Almighty as He shows His displeasure at the utter stupidity of Malaysian
### Indeed a very good constant reminder (is it a threat), it could recur something real! If certain parties would like it to happen, it will happen.  However, God will definitely show His Displeasure; however are we always be reminded of God which we should be as Muslims? Are we conscious of His existence? Are we following His Rules & Guidance …….

The only way to save Malaysia is the Rules of God, nothing less. It is the salvation of the human race. Don’t talk anything else, talk about who are we, what are we doing here, where are we going, what is the purpose of mankind on earth,  . .. .  etc.

Was the affirmative action programmes of the NEP which were racially biased towards the disadvantaged Malays so damaging to the prosperity of the Chinese as they claimed their share of the economic cake? Were the greed and arrogance of the Malay cronies favoured by the BN government and UMNO so exceptional that the Chinese were left high and dry?

Com’on, be real, it is about fairness, good governance, arrogance and snobbish umno elite, daylight robbery and corruption of ruling leaders, undependable judiciary, police, macc etc, etc. Individual or community security is at stake. Justice is fading.

The Chinese is smart just like the Kelantanese (and Kelantanese Chinese alike), Perakian, Kedahan , Penangites and Selangorian. Nevertheless, alas, some Malays are still fast asleep, dungu, unable to change for the better.

Chinese businessmen and corporate giants were delighted to kowtow to the BN leadership, please them and bribe them when the going was profitable. In retrospect they have become HOLIER THAN THOU!  How disgusting!
How stupid, we are talking here about the masses whose votes count. These corporate people are always there to corrupt. Corruption is their profession.

The only way is to lift Malaysian politics to the next level where the discourse is freed from the blame game and filled with the substance of ideologies and ideals.
BUILD, BUILD, BUILD to counter the DESTROY, DESTROY, DESTROY!
It is always about money, money, money, money, money, material wealth, nothing more. The Prophet Muhammad saw, whom he worried, has said this about the destiny of his ummah; they are wealth, they forgotten about God and the true path.
Let’s face it – Malaysians are a corrupted and corruptible lot PERIOD.
Including you? There are people down there who are working hard to get rid of the society involved in corruption. Macc advisor must disagree on this! TS Megat ….

The Chinese want good governance and a clean government! …. hoodwinking them into believing the Malays are to blame for all the country’s ills and evils!

In addition, the Malays who are not with you wanted the same; don’t be racial.

Likewise, the Malays must wake up from their cultural stupor and stop believing they are Allah’s chosen people! We are only as outstanding or as downtrodden as the values we uphold.  Reflect them in your conduct and behaviour.

If you believe that you are Allah’s chosen people, then truly and deligently you need to conform to ALL the contents of the Quran. The umno elite and top leaders in all sectors don’t believe in Allah swt 100%, if they believe so, their conduct and behaviour won’t be the talk of the nation.

Malaysians must be forthright and honest…. . Only then can we uphold our integrity and credibility and become a great nation!

Yes, be honest and, honesty starts at home. The Quran decreed that …>>

Some people thought that they are the smarter one. People who wanted to implement what the Quran said, are called stupid and backward. Just look and study the above ayat.

Baliklah kepangkal jalan, the only ways for the salvation of the Malay race:

Waalah waalam.

Mcob Doc Hatta,

My main theme was to ask that we look at politics/political parties in their entirety and also to view from a historical perspective, hence the e.g. of what the Dap did then. History has taught me many valuable lessons so I never underestimate the effects history has on Man and society. I remember that headgear issue but I don’t remember anyone saying that Ku Li was a Christian as a result. The war was to focus on the headgear per se and then to provide all kinds of interpretations to make the man look bad and unfortunately that’s what politics, across all divides, can come down to.

Dap’s prudent management in Penang? Good then but Halimah was not talking about this and my response here was in response to the responses to the opinions by Halimah and Tengku Aziz. I try not to include issues not included in a writing bcos nanti terlalu panjang cerita, 7 hari 7 malam tak habis.

cheers mate

I wish bro AA can give a more current eg rather than a case in distant ’90, where TR was also paraded by BN as a Christian wearing a Kadazan Tengkolok and all the Muftis scrambling to make public their fatwas. Pas was badly affected then.

Going by the record Dap’s mgt of Penang has received good reviews except from MSM. Still anyone can have their point of view. The points raised by T Aziz was only re gutter politics, not the Lims or Deos thingy, which can be debated separately.

Like T Aziz I have good words for D Halimah. Still she can’t help trying to sound neutral by hitting at others while her main concern is the politics of BN. Kuranglah sikit kemarahan org BN.

Still, she has the last word.

MAJ,

I don’t think I can agree with Tengku Aziz bcos when the writer mentions gutter politics I don’t believe she was referring to anti-corruption or a just society specifically. There’s much more to the Dap’s politics that any opinion on the party cannot be confined to its “official” language or it’s policy against corruption. There are other issues, many issues including the composition of its leadership & membership, the nepotism relating to the Lims and the Deos and its stand on issues directly affecting the Malays and others, especially the Chinese. It is in this wider perspective that the Dap is seen to be chauvinistic. If it isn’t seditious I’m sure the writer would have touched on some of these other issues.

p/s: remember the election campaign when the Dap paraded the Chinese boy who was converted to Islam? I think that was in 1990. this is precisely the kind of approach which adds credence to the perception of its politics.

My sister Halimah,

You,like me call a spade a spade-not even a shovel but I was for all that taken aback by the tone and tenor of your otherwise excellent article. Your linking my party, the DAP to “gutter politics” is a bit unkind, unlike you whom I know to be kind and fair. If fighting for a just  society and against corruption in national life is gutter politics, so be it.

As an older person and a friend, I forgive you your transgressions!

Kindest regards

Tunku

CHINESE VOTES

That the Chinese votes are gravitating slowly but surely away from the Barisan National is obvious –  from the Sibu by election on Sunday backwards to the 2008 general elections and even before!

The trend is gaining ground as the Chinese furtively show their discontent with the government policies as well as the modus operandi of the biggest Malay political party UMNO. As the UMNO leaders exerted their influence in BN, the Chinese component parties in the coalition lost their voice and their bite to be an effective platform for airing Chinese grievances, needs and demands.

The gutter-fighters in the DAP have used this to their advantage as they prove again and again that their bark is indeed as strong as their bite! That the Chinese voters trust them more than the MCA and Gerakan is a foregone conclusion! As the gutter-fighters among the Malays gather their strength under the banner of Perkasa, the Malaysian political scenario looks set to maintain its racial and growing racist undertones. All foreboding the real danger of a fully-blown racial conflict!  A repeat of May 13 1969 GOD FORBID!

I was in Johore Bharu during that tumultous period and was therefore spared its gruesome realities. But listening to first-hand accounts of  the emergency and looking at the horrific build-up of street warfare in Bangkok send shivers down my spine. I pray to God that Kuala Lumpur, indeed the other  Malaysian political “hot spots” like George Town and Ipoh will be spared the wrath of the Almighty as He shows His displeasure at the utter stupidity of Malaysian TIT 4 TAT politics.

Are the Chinese grievances real or imagined or exaggerated? Is it true that they have been discriminated against by successive ALLIANCE/ BN governments focussed on providing  props to build up the Bumiputera/ Malay community? Was the affirmative action programmes of the NEP which were racially biased towards the disadvantaged Malays so damaging to the prosperity of the Chinese as they claimed their share of the economic cake? Were the greed and arrogance of the Malay cronies favoured by the BN government and UMNO so exceptional that the Chinese were left high and dry? Were the BN political leaders the only ones contributing to the nation’s rampant corruption?

I’m sure by now each of these questions have been/ are being answered and rebutted by the Opposition and its predominantly Chinese supporters. It’s almost futile to address the background to the sorry state of Malaysian politics as the Opposition parties, especially, will not admit that they were happy to partake of the spoils when times were good. Chinese businessmen and corporate giants were delighted to kowtow to the BN leadership, please them and bribe them when the going was profitable. In retrospect they have become HOLIER THAN THOU!  How disgusting!

The only way out of this racial/ racist mess is for political leaders to emerge with non-confrontational stances and rhetoric as the PM is trying hard to do. The only way is to lift Malaysian politics to the next level where the discourse is freed from the blame game and filled with the substance of ideologies and ideals.
BUILD, BUILD, BUILD to counter the DESTROY, DESTROY, DESTROY!

Street-fighting and grassroots hair-pulling must stop as must the YOU ARE MORE CORRUPT THAN ME game which is accelerating between BN and PR. Let’s face it – Malaysians are a corrupted and corruptible lot PERIOD.

The Chinese want good governance and a clean government! PLEASE clean up the bribery and corruption in your own community first! PLEASE modernise the culture of your people and educate your grassroots supporters instead of hoodwinking them into believing the Malays are to blame for all the country’s ills and evils!

Likewise, the Malays must wake up from their cultural stupor and stop believing they are Allah’s chosen people! We are only as outstanding or as downtrodden as the values we uphold.  Reflect them in your conduct and behaviour. There’s no point shouting you are the TUAN when you are still behaving like the arrogant PEON!

Malaysians must be forthright and honest about their own strengths and weaknesses . They must strive to consolidate the positives and eradicate the negatives. Only then can we uphold our integrity and credibility and become a great nation!
